Food & related sectors in Brazil

This tradeshow is the biggest in Latin America in the food industry machine sector and food products packaging. Although Fispal is dedicated to all branches of the food industry, 50% of the place is represented by the food product packaging industry. The rest is reserved for industrial processes and logistics.

The last edition attracted about 64 500 specialized agents and 1 500 exhibitors from 13 different countries.

The food industry is an important sector for the economic activity in Brazil. The sector has charged nearly 86 milliard euro in
2007, an increase of 10,6% compared to 2006, nearly 77% comes from the food industry and 23% comes from the beverage industry, according to the Brazilian Association of Food Industry (ABIA). The interior market presents 75% of the production and the other 25% is being exported.

This increase is partly explained by the growth of the average Brazilians income which was significant these last years, but also by the non-stop industrial development of the country who is no longer pleased by only producing “commodities”. According to projections by the ABIA, the billing of the sector should increase 16, 2% in 2008 in compared with 2007.

The food sector in Brazil is now composed by many companies who are proposing a wide range of finished products. One of the biggest challenges for the sector is the international competition.

Brazil is no longer a simple provider of commodities but has also become an important producer of manufactured food products. To improve the offer, companies need to open up to the latest technologies of the food processing sectors. The need for efficient equipment has become very clear and many foreign companies begin to settle. In some cases, the government is even facilitating importation of equipments and favorite his industries.
