51th session of the Russian Chemists Union took place on May 18, 2011 in the framework of the  IV St. Petersburg Chemical Forum . It was devoted to the development priorities for the Chemical Industry of the North-West of Russia.
Vyacheslav Slutsky , the project director of JSC “Plastpolymer”, told about the perspectives of the regional chemical clusters. “Russia takes the first place as the world producer of gas and oil, but manufactures only 2 % of polymers”, - explained Mr. Slutsky. He also noted poor development of Russian Gas and Chemical Industry and suggested several variants of its further development.
Sergey Ivanov – the senior specialist of JSC “Plastpolymer” was also talking about Polymers. “Our Polymer Industry is oil oriented, therefore USA and Europe develop Gas polymers as they are cheaper”, said Sergey Ivanov. Gas projects have already been launched in Russia. The deputy director of Cherepovets Branch of “FosAgroAG” (JSC “Cherepovetsky Azot”) Ivan Kruglov told about the new project gas-chemical complex in Cherepovets. The new production will be combined with two existing factories “Cherepovets Zaot” and “Ammofos”, which will provide gas and power economy. Other hydrocarbons processing enterprises are also possible to appear at this platform later on.
